The reference photo for this work is the following…

I took this photo at Kurobe in Japan to do my homework to be submitted for the nature photo club’s monthly meeting which I attended years ago. When creating a pastel work based on this photo, I made the very black parts of the photo brighter to soften the contrast. Plus I had to make a new colour for the water as I did not have this particular colour in my pastel set; I mixed Schmincke turquoise and Rembrandt yellow green to make this colour. I think this mixture worked very well.

All in all, I like this work, especially where a bit of sunlight can be seen in the shadow on the shore, although it is very subtle. If I would change something with this piece next time, I may simplify the trees on the left-hand corner a little bit as it looks too noisy.
